Profile
Welcome to the profile of Ron Mello, an artist with BoundlessGallery.com.
Influenced by Japanese and Native American ceramics, Ron Mello brings together clay, found objects and other materials for a personal aesthetic statement. His feelings about primitive techniques express the Zen ideal of surrendering oneself to the process and proclaim his reverence for nature and the basic elements of earth, air, fire and water."My current work represents a synthesis of 30 years experience in painting, sculpture and ceramics. Traditional artistic concepts, ancient forms and primitive ceramic techniques have inspired this work. Working closely with the fire I create smoked or glazed vessels that express a respect for ancient forms and techniques. I combine skillfully thrown vessels with the seduction of a polished or richly glazed or unglazed surface. After one or several firings (Raku, Sagger, Pit) the pieces are cleaned and or polished to reflect my unique artistic vision. Some pieces may be carved or pierced and may have found objects or metallic leaf added."
